Julia Vázquez, the winner of the 2014 Sir Denis Mahon Essay Prize, is now an Art of Europe Paintings and Exhibition Intern at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she has held the position since October 2019.
Previously Julia was the Hilla Rebay International Fellow at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, and Collezione Peggy Guggenheim between September 2018 – September 2019.
Between September 2017 – May 2018, Julia was the Joseph F. McCrindle Foundation Curatorial Fellow at the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, where she assisted the Sculpture and Decorative Arts Department with preparations for their exhibition, Alonso Berruguete ; First Sculptor of Renaissance Spain (13 October 2019 – 17 February 2020).
Julia held both a curatorial internship at the Whitney Museum of American Art (September 2015 – May 2016) and a Meadows / Kress / Prado Curatorial Fellowship (September 2016 – August 2017) that enabled her to work at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, Spain and the Meadows Museum in Dallas, Texas. She completed a BA (history of art and architecture) at Brown University (2005-2009) and an MA (2010-2012) and MPhil (2012-2013) at Columbia University, where she was awarded a PhD in art history and archeology (2013-2019). Her dissertation was related to the painter Diego Velázquez.
